Putting circulating tumor DNA into a mechanistic framework

We developed a stochastic mathematical framework to study tumor growth and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) shedding to predict the potential and limitations of ctDNA for cancer early detection. We found that ctDNA can detect tumors earlier with higher specificity than other methods. The framework will help to accelerate clinical trials by identifying the most promising cancer early detection strategies. Read the full study in Science Advances.
